Tassel Top Beach closed for swimming
Portland Water district provides weekly test results for 18 locations around Sebago lake.
Raymond, Maine – Tassel Top Beach has been closed for swimming due to elevated E. coli levels detected during routine water quality testing. The closure is in accordance with state water quality standards, which require closure when E. coli concentrations exceed 235 parts per 100 ml.
Testing indicated the presence of waterfowl in the area, which is a known contributor to elevated bacterial levels. High E. coli counts following rain events and in areas with waterfowl activity are a normal occurrence across Maine beaches and recreational water areas.
The beach will reopen once retesting confirms that water quality has returned to safe levels. Residents will be notified when the closure is lifted.
